At least 40 members of the Meru county assembly have thrown their weight behind governor Kawira Mwangaza and told off those criticising her.

The MCA led by majority leader Evans Mawira (Mitunguu ward), South Imenti said those threatening to impeach her again were playing politics and dared them to table the motion. They said the time for politicking was over and want peace and development in their ward’s.

They were addressing journalists at the County headquarters.

Mr Mawira told off the splinter group who say they will table a motion in the assembly to kick out the county boss for the second time.

The ward reps said they were not aware of differences said to be between Ms Mwangaza and her deputy Isaac Mutuma since none of them has come out openly.

The alleged differences came to the fore after some MCAs raised an alarm claiming that the governor withdrew Mr Mutuma’s official car and cancelled his tour to USA

The Meru county secretary Kiambi Athiru denied the claims saying that there is no official car that was withdrawn.

“The car which was withheld was the one assigned to him to carry his day – to – day activities. This action was taken after it was discovered that it was being misused,” Mr Athiru said.

County chief of staff Harrison Gatobu has also denied that the deputy governor’s foreign trip was cancelled.

He said that he is in charge of the governor and the deputy governor diary and there is no tour that was scheduled.

Concerning the splitting of Meru into two counties that has divided politicians down the middle, Mr Mawira said they supported the move but only if the correct procedure was followed.
