Former agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has vowed to outsmart his political opponents in 2027 to win the Meru governor seat after coming second in 2022.

Linturi who has already kicked off his campaign is forging alliances with politicians from across the nine constituencies and 47 wards in readiness for the next election.

Already, Linturi has secured the support of more than 10 former MCAs from the Igembe region as well as former Igembe North MP Maore Maoka.

The former CS, who garnered 183,859 votes against Kawira Mwangaza’s 209,148 votes in the last election says he lost due to a late entry into the race.

Recently, Linturi announced the start of his campaign for governor officially marking the start of a clash with former agriculture CS Peter Munya.

Munya, who is the PNU Party leader has also vowed to fight for the seat he lost in 2017.

Linturi, who was crowned the community spokesman by Njuri Ncheke before his ouster, said he was no longer interested in appointments where the appointing authority can fire at will.

He has watered Munya’s political might saying he was behind the problems in Meru for endorsing Kawira Mwangaza in 2022.

“The problem we have in Meru can be traced to Mr Munya because when I vied in 2022, he supported my rival. Since he is the cause of the problems we have, he is not competent to cure them,” he hit out.

Linturi, who was active in the county government politics, has also sought to keep off the affairs of elected leaders as he focuses on his 2027 bid.

Meanwhile, Munya has been revamping his party network in the county in preparation for the bruising political contest in 2027.
