Five people including two National Police Reservists(NPR) officers were Monday night shot dead at Njaruine village of Amwathi ward in Igembe North sub county.
The bandits believed to have come from a neighboring county also made away with more than 100 cattle.
Sources said that more than 70 armed men raided the village on Monday night killing one person, as three others were killed on Tuesday morning.
During the attack, several other people were injured and rushed to Mutuati level four hospital where they were treated.
Meru County commissioner Fred Ndunga said that security officers have been deployed to the area in pursuit of the criminals.
Last month, former Antubetwe Kiongo MCA George Kaliunga was killed in a banditry attack while accompanying police officers who went after his stolen livestock in the ward.
Similar attacks were also witnessed in 2021 where three people were shot dead in clashes between two communities at Ntukai village in Athiru Rujine, Igembe Central.
